You can give your OPT A# but once you're assigned a permanent visa number, they'll give you a different number. Your OPT A# is just a temporary number.
I think you mean once you are assigned a permanent A# ! It is assigned before a visa number is assigned.
A number series starting with 1 (eg. for OPT) are temporary. Those starting with 9 are permanent.
USCIS has a regular A# consolidation unit as well as a column to check for more than one A# on their internal worksheet for I-485.
Bottom-line: give your OPT A# and they will take care of the rest. This is what I did and worked.

- Present Indian immigration statuc: ECNR, etc. - check your password. It should be ECNR if you've travelled this far... :)
- 16).Alien registration card number/Employment registration card number_____ (i dont have any of these numbers)
Don't recollect needing any of the above numbers.
- In our case, it was new passport in lieu of lost passport.
If you get in early (i.e. before they close for lunch, but preferably as soon as they open) they'll help you out with all that - generally nice & friendly folks in CGI.

I just read the FAQ#3 and A33 says that I-485 �7/30/07 Y� should be used but my attorney used "07/24/06 Y" to file my I-485. Very worried now... any comments... what are chances that my apllication would be rejected?

Ever since they made I-131 online, its always been a mess. The form usually shows an expired date, and there are lot of glitches applying online. I was hoping USCIS would have improved their system by not since its been online for more than a yr now. But I guess just like the backlogged applications everything moves slow in USCIS.

I had a similar issue for my son (I attached the check and it appeared that they lost the check) and it can be re-submitted again as long as the receipt date stamped on the rejected application is before retrogression which must be the case for you. But you need to wait for the rejected App.
What did the rejection notice say. Did it mention that checks are missing or did it say right amount was not included. My rejection notice said that the check was not made for $1010.00 But my lawyer says that the returned packet did not have the original checks in it and that the text on the notice is just a catch-all reason.
When did you resubmit it and did you hear any update ?

Do I need to take separate appointments for my wife....I mean can I take one appointment on one Receipt # and check the status of hers too at infopass? On telephone call they always ask for the applicant when checking the status.
I'll take an infopass then...did u call us the customer service before the infopass...I am sure they'd have told you that your dependents are approved...I am sure infopass agent see the same screen as the customer reps at the Nat serv centers.

So, I was able to get the case details for my wife and dependant, but this may not be the case with other locations and IOs. I filed for AOS in Aug 07, my attorney advised me that we could combine the checks payable to USCIS for family members (EG: in place of one check for my 485 and one more for my wife we could combine both the checks for 485 and issue a single check for twice the amount). Based on the above, i issued 1 check for 485, 1 for EAD, 1 for FP and 1 for AP.
Now my checks have been cashed and i am able to see the receipt number on the back of the cashed check. I see two receipt numbers on the back of the checks for EAD and AP however i see only 1 receipt number on the back of the check for 485 (and the same number on the back of the check for FP)
Did any body else also send combined checks? Did you get a single receipt number or multiple numbers?

If you need reentry permit and if you are outside US, then you can kiss your gc goodbye. You must be in US to apply for reentry permit, otherwise it will be denied...Even the appeal will be denied...Then need to check with local US consulate...

Is this because of EB3 to EB2 conversions? If so then the likelihood of EB2 - I dates moving a lot in Oct bulletin are low.
Are there any 'guesstimates' out there for the number of EB3 to EB2 conversions?
The main reason apart from stated ones above - "FBI new name check 6 month policy". Lot of old people which were struck up with name check from long time are getting cleared now.

I got my answer, the very next question talks about I-140 withdrawl and its impact on the AOS application if job changed using portabiliity within 180 days of filing.
